If you are an adventure seeker, then you will enjoy going to the Cenotes Zapote Ecological Park. The Cenotes Zapote Ecological Park is just a short bus ride approximately forty minutes from Cancun, and bus public transportation is very affordable as it only costs a few dollars there and back to Cancun. The Eco-Park opens at eight in the morning and stays open until five in the evening, daily. To get into the Eco-Park the fee is 100 pesos, which equals to around $6 USD. The Cenotes Zapote Eco-Park is created when a cenote is created, then formed with the limestone caves are made through rock, which creates an underground river. When it rains the rain water will absorb into the numerous layers of sandstone, and this will erode channels towards the ocean slowly until the huge caves have been formed. If you and your family want to learn about the Mayan history and culture and you would like to connect with nature, then the Eco-Park is the ideal place to go to. This is also a wonderful place for snorkeling or swimming as the waters are crystal clear and they are surrounded by luscious greenery.

Local Archaeological Ruin Tours

The Chichen Itza Ruins are very popular, but you will have to travel several hours to get there from Cancun. The great news is that there are local archaeological sites that you and your family can visit that can be found in the city limits of Cancun. You and your family will still have the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the Mayans, but the cost and travel time is much lower. Right in the hotel zone of Cancun is the El Rey Ruins. You and your family can probably even walk to the ruins from your resort or hotel. There are hundreds of iguanas that have made the El Rey Ruins their home, and they are one of the main attractions at the ruins. The fee to visit the El Rey Ruins is 40 pesos, which is equal to about $3 USD. Just north of Cancun is the El Meco Ruins that is located in Punta Sam, and these ruins have just recently opened to the general public. The fee to enter this ruins is also 40 pesos or $3 USD, and you and your family can tour fourteen different structures, see an amazing and beautiful lagoon along with seeing one of the main temples that is located there.  The temple remains in great shape for exploring and appreciating this ancient culture. Last, but not least there is one more ruin, which is the Yamil Lu’um. This ruin is located at Cancun’s highest point on the Park Royal Cancun Hotel grounds. This particular ruin can be reached by many of the public beaches, and many of the locals believe that one of the structures at the ruins was once a lighthouse that actually dates back to the early 14th century or the late 13th century. The fee to enter the Yamil Lu’um is free, which is perfect for those who are on a tight budget!

Indoor Activities at the La Isla Shopping Village

If you are wanting to get out of the heat and sun, you and your family should go to the Interactive Aquarium in Cancun, which is located at the La Isla Shopping Village. This upscale shopping village has many different shops and stores, and there is nothing better to do for free than window shopping. The Interactive Aquarium has numerous local exotic fish and marine life that live in the Yucatan Peninsula. The Interactive Aquarium is open every day at nine in the morning, and it stays open until seven in the evening. The fee to tour the aquarium is just $10 USD. The VIP Cinema in the shopping village is another great indoor activity to do at the shopping village. The VIP Cinema isn’t your ordinary cinema as this one is an upscale one. You can sit back and recline in the luxurious leather recliners and even have a waiter bring you food and drinks that you order from their extensive menu. The menu even features fresh sushi and specialty cocktails. The latest movies and blockbusters can be watched here and there are English and Spanish subtitles, too. The fee to watch a movie at the VIP cinema is 150 pesos which equals to around $8 USD.

Isla Mujeres Day Outing

Would you and your family like to escape from Cancun for a day and go on an adventure of the Yucatan Peninsula? If you would, then you should consider going to a small island that is only eight miles across the bay waters of Cancun called Isla Mujeres. You and your family can leave the hotel zone by hopping on a ferry that leaves twice a day. The fee is only 200 pesos, which equals $10 USD for the round trip. You and your family can also ride a bus to downtown and hop on a ferry and the fee is only 50 pesos, which equals to $3 USD. Every thirty minutes the ferry will depart. You will instantly feel the tropical vibe when you arrive on the Isla Mujeres Island, and the beaches are beautiful and breathtaking. This is an ideal location for snorkeling as the marine life and corals are plentiful. Many of the diving shops on the island rent out snorkeling gear and the fee is around only $5 USD for the entire day. You can’t beat that!
